Welcome to the third edition of Mendocino Inside Voice’s student art feature. This time, we have pieces and an interview with one of the Community High School’s seniors, Kiersten Kintner.
While interviewing Kiersten I had to know what had inspired her to do the kind of art that she makes.
Q:What kind of art are you creating? A: Anime-esque, anime art style . Q: What inspired you to do this type of art? A: I mostly do art with an anime art style. I get most of my inspiration from Cowboy Beebop (an anime about the futuristic adventures of easy going bounty hunter and his friends) and the art style from the 80s. Q: So Kiersten, which piece are you most proud of? A: The first piece in my sketchbook, which is a drawing of an eboy. I was drawing it when Jesse commented on how it looks like Mr. Rain.
Q: Which piece if your least favorite? A: This untitled piece of a lady that was originally supposed to be her floating in water, then swimming in space, and the end result just became her smoking. I’m not the biggest fan of how the body is positioned on the paper. I had no clear plan, which I always need when I begin a drawing.
Q: Which piece took the longest? A: This piece is decent, I was trying to hyper focus on the water, but it didn’t quite turn out how I wanted.
Q: Which piece took the shortest amount of time? A: Savion’s brother as lone ranger because he gives off a cowboy aesthetic.
Q: Do you see yourself making a career out of doing this kind of art? A: Interesting question, some people can make it, and I feel like if I was to pursue it, I would be one of the artists that wouldn’t make it…so I don’t know if i would actually make a career out of art.
