Manwolves are the complete package, from amazing vocals to instruments that can make your ears jump while your heart slowly melts. Manwolves is a band based in Chicago. Comprised of 6 members, Manwolves is a band that dabbles mainly in Jazz and Rock Genres.
Manwolves is my favorite band of all time and is massively underrated. Though they have had some major success, taking the number four spot on Spotify for their song “These Days,” it hasn’t helped them as much as I would have liked it. These Days has raised about 4 million streams on Spotify and has helped Manwolves hit around 15 million overall. That does sound like a bit, but based off of Manwolves pure talent as musicians, they deserve top 10 ratings.
The album A Safety Meeting, though not having a common story told throughout the album, has a very common theme: The main theme is about problems with drug abuse and how it not only affects them but the people around them, specifically in relationships. Romantic and platonic relationships are also explored. A Safety Meeting has 8 songs with a 32 minute run time. This averages out to 4 minutes a song.
My personal favorite is “Shkleepy.” This song embodies the album. It begins with “Oh im pissed off drink to much / think I drowned my liver bout to drip off.” This first lyric really embodies the album by talking about his problem with drug abuse and how it has and will continue to affect his life in negative ways. He says, “Waited way too long hope I didn’t miss my lift off.” This lyric is a perfect example on how it affects his life for the worse; it shows that after drinking that he almost misses his flight. Though I can’t relate to the lyrics, the vibe and the instruments are just so gosh darn sweet. They’re some of the greatest I have ever heard. Manwolves has in my opinion the greatest rock trumpet player ever. He is amazing and makes the song what is is from his solos; his solos are just so precise and smooth; they just make your heart melt. From drums that make your head bump to a trumpet that steals the show, “Shkleepy” truly is a spectacular song.
The most popular song, “Georgia Peach,”is all about the main singer’s girlfriend. This is probably one of the two songs on the album that actually goes in depth with some personal issues other than drugs. In the song he sings about being “95 miles away from each other,” which he follows with “Its raining up here in Chicago…..I know you don’t like the cold so I’ll see you again tomorrow.” This shows how much he loves this girl. He is willing to drive 95 miles every day to see her. “Weather is Warm” is the other really sentimental and relatable song for me. This song does have many drug references but is mostly about how Chicago is a freezing “hell hole” and how much everyone likes the warm weather and how one of their girlfriends wants them to leave and move away with her. This is why he sings, “I wish we could just all get along.” He wants the band to come with but their homes are in Chicago, which is a real struggle for the member. Luckily he decided to stay, so we can hear the bass of god.
Throughout my sixteen years on this planet, no album has even gotten close to the level of A Safety Meeting. Every single song is good but this is the first album I have ever listened to in which ??every single song on the album I can listen to over and over again.
