The 2020 presidential election is less than a year away and the polls are always changing. There are a dozen nominees running as democrats and three as republicans. The polls have shown Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, and Elizabeth Warren leading the polls so far; however, Pete Buttigieg and Bernie Sanders did best in the Iowa caucuses. I made a survey asking students which Presidential nominee they would vote for: Michael Bennet, Joe Biden, Michael Bloomberg, Pete Buttigieg, John Delaney, Tulsi Gabbard, Amy Klobuchar, Deval Patrick, Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer, Elizabeth Warren, Marianne Williamson, Andrew Yang, Donald Trump (Republican), Joe Walsh (Republican), or William Weld (Republican). Here are the results:
Only 44 people responded to the survey, but we got big results. Our school would elect Bernie Sanders with 24 votes. Coming in second is Elizabeth Warren with ten votes, third is Pete Buttigieg, fourth is Andrew Yang, and fifth is Trump with four votes. With Bernie currently leading the polls and recently doing well in Iowa, the future looks to be going the way Mendocino High schoolers are hoping.
