Senior Spotlight: Nathaniel Woodrow Wildcat Mills

Nathaniel Woodrow Wildcat Mills is a senior at Mendocino High School. He is renowned for his intelligence around school, as well as his “that’s an L” catch phrase. Our interview was in the current English room of Mendocino High School, where Sam Stump teaches.

In his free time, Nat enjoys lurking on reddit, playing tennis, which he’s played for three years, hanging with his sisters, and being horizontal (laying on his back).
His favourite subject has been math, “because it was the most rewarding challenge I’ve experienced in high school.” His least favourite subject has been English, “because he was born with a mouse and keyboard in hand.”

To underclassmen, he recommended this, “Give it your all, start your college applications in June of your junior year, play a sport, and enjoy your remaining freedom.”

Wildcat’s ideal teacher is witty, risky, knows when to rant or go off on tangents, and is a parental figure. High school has taught him to find your ideal work ethic, not to forget to play and have fun (as in work and play), and to remember to breathe. His biggest challenges of these last four years has been “accommodating to change, whether it be teachers, a principal, or the college application process.”

In his future, Nat hopes to attend at any of the following colleges: Pomona, Stanford, or Dartmouth.

Similar to Sophie, Nathaniel was asked identical questions. In the English room he said, “Over nine-thousand pennies” would fit, which roused a chorus of snickers from the other students including me. In response to the penguin question, he answered with a grin, “‘Estoy listo ‘to chill’ (relajarme)’.”
